Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the balsamic glaze:

  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup

Instructions

Preheat the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C. This ensures even cooking and helps the meatloaf bake properly without drying out.

Prepare the mixture

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, pork, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, milk, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.

Mix gently

  • Mix everything carefully using your hands. Do not overmix. Stop when ingredients are evenly combined and soft.

Shape the meatloaf

  • Transfer the mixture into a baking dish. Shape it into a loaf form. Make sure it is even for proper cooking.

Prepare the glaze

  • In a small saucepan, combine balsamic vinegar, brown sugar and ketchup. Cook on low heat until slightly thickened.

Add glaze to meatloaf

  • Brush half of the glaze over the meatloaf. Save the rest for later use after baking.

Bake the meatloaf

  • Place the dish in the oven. Bake for about 50–60 minutes until fully cooked and nicely browned.

Add final glaze

  • Remove from oven and brush remaining glaze on top. This adds extra flavor and shine.

Rest and serve

  • Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes. Slice and serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for stronger flavor
  • Add chopped herbs like parsley or thyme
  • Use ground turkey for a lighter option
  • Do not skip the glaze step
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy version
  • Let meatloaf rest before slicing
