Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Combine base ingredients

  • In a saucepan, add ketchup, apple cider vinegar and brown sugar. Stir well until everything is fully mixed together.

Add flavor ingredients

  • Add molasses, Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Mix well to combine all flavors into the sauce.

Add spices

  • Sprinkle smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper and salt. Stir until spices are evenly distributed.

Cook the sauce

  • Place saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer while stirring occasionally to avoid burning.

Simmer slowly

  • Reduce heat to low and let it cook for 20–25 minutes. Stir often until the sauce thickens nicely.

Taste and adjust

  • Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed. Add more sugar or vinegar depending on your flavor preference.

Cool the sauce

  • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. The sauce will thicken more as it cools down.

Store or use

  • Pour into a jar or container. Use immediately or store for later use in the fridge.

Serve and enjoy

  • Use this sauce for grilling, dipping or marinating. It pairs perfectly with chicken, ribs, and burgers.

Notes

  • Add chili powder for a spicy version
  • Use honey instead of sugar for natural sweetness
  • Add liquid smoke for stronger smoky flavor
  • Blend sauce for smoother texture
  • Use fresh garlic for stronger taste
  • Adjust vinegar for more tanginess
