Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest optional
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Prepare the Glaze

  • In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard and apple cider vinegar.

Add Spices

  • Stir in ground cloves, cinnamon, orange zest and black pepper. Mix well until uniform.

Heat the Glaze

  • Cook over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring constantly. Allow sugar to dissolve and mixture to thicken slightly.

Preheat the Ham

  • Preheat oven and prepare ham according to package instructions. Score the ham surface for better glaze absorption.

Apply Glaze

  • Brush a thin layer of glaze over the ham before baking. Ensure it covers all surfaces evenly.
  • Bake and Baste
  • Bake ham according to instructions, basting every 15–20 minutes with remaining glaze for a caramelized finish.

Final Glaze

  • In the last 10 minutes, apply one final coat of glaze to make it shiny and flavorful.

Serve

  • Remove ham from oven. Let it rest 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with extra glaze if desired.

Notes

  • Use brown sugar and maple syrup for richer sweetness
  • Add orange juice for citrusy flavor
  • Include mustard seeds for texture and tang
  • Baste gently to avoid burning the glaze
  • Use a foil tent to prevent over-browning
  • Add a pinch of cayenne for subtle spice
  • Store leftover glaze for a week in the fridge
