Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oil

For the gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Prepare beef mixture

  • Add ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper into a bowl. Mix gently until combined evenly.

Shape patties

  • Form oval-shaped patties with your hands. Keep them thick so they stay juicy while cooking in the pan.

Heat oil

  • Add oil to a pan and heat on medium flame. Make sure oil is hot before adding patties.

Cook patties

  • Place patties in pan carefully. Cook each side until brown and slightly crispy. Remove and set aside.

Cook onions

  • In the same pan, add sliced onions. Cook until soft and golden. Stir slowly to build flavor.

Make gravy base

  • Add butter and flour to onions. Stir well to form a smooth paste. Cook for one minute.

Add broth

  • Slowly pour beef broth into pan. Stir continuously to avoid lumps. Let it simmer until slightly thick.

Add seasoning

  • Add Worcestershire sauce and black pepper. Mix well so gravy becomes rich and flavorful.

Combine and cook

  • Place patties back into gravy. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes until fully cooked and tender.

Notes

  • Do not overmix beef for soft texture
  • Add mushrooms for extra flavor
  • Use lean beef for lighter version
  • Add garlic powder for stronger taste
  • Let patties rest before cooking
  • Use fresh broth for best gravy
  • Add mashed potatoes on the side
  • Make extra gravy for serving
