For the Pasta:

  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) for baking meatballs if using oven method.

Make the Meatball Mixture

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, parsley, garlic, egg, salt, pepper and oregano. Mix gently.

Shape the Meatballs

  • Form mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs. Place them on a lightly greased baking sheet or prepare for pan-frying.

Cook the Meatballs

  • Pan-fry meatballs in olive oil over medium heat until browned on all sides, or bake for 15–20 minutes until cooked through.

Prepare the Sauce

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil. Sauté chopped onion until translucent. Add garlic and cook 1 minute.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, sugar, oregano, salt and pepper. Simmer sauce for 15–20 minutes.

Combine Meatballs and Sauce

  • Add cooked meatballs into the sauce. Simmer 10 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Cook Spaghetti

  • Boil spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and keep warm.

Serve the Dish

  • Plate spaghetti and top with meatballs and sauce. Sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan and chopped basil.

Enjoy Your Meal

  • Serve immediately with garlic bread or a fresh salad for a complete dinner experience.

Notes

  • Use a mix of beef and pork for juicier meatballs.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for heat.
  • Substitute spaghetti with zoodles or gluten-free pasta if preferred.
  • Bake meatballs instead of pan-frying for a lighter version.
  • Simmer sauce slowly for richer flavor.
  • Add fresh mozzarella cubes inside meatballs for a cheesy surprise.
