Ingredients
  

  • 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 can 6 oz tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder optional
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder optional

Instructions
  

Heat Olive Oil

  • In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat until warm.

Sauté Onion

  • Add finely chopped onion. Cook until soft and fragrant, about three minutes.

Add Garlic

  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for one minute, careful not to burn.

Add Tomato Paste

  • Add tomato paste and stir. Cook for two minutes to enhance sweetness and flavor.

Add Tomato Sauce

  • Pour in the tomato sauce. Mix well to combine with paste and sautéed onions.

Add Seasonings

  • Add oregano, basil, sugar, salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. Stir evenly.

Simmer the Sauce

  • Lower heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Blend for Smoothness

  • Optional: Use a blender or immersion blender to make the sauce completely smooth.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the sauce. Adjust salt, sugar or herbs if needed to match classic Chef Boyardee flavor.

Store or Use

  • Remove from heat. Use immediately on pizza dough or store in an airtight container for later.
