Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas mashed
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a loaf pan with parchment paper or spray with cooking oil.

Mash Bananas

  • In a large bowl, mash ripe bananas with a fork until smooth. This ensures natural sweetness and moisture.

Mix Wet Ingredients

  • Add melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and eggs to mashed bananas. Stir until combined.

Dissolve Espresso

  • In a small bowl, dissolve espresso powder in 1 tablespoon hot water. Mix well and add to wet ingredients.
  • Sift Dry Ingredients
  • In another bowl, sift flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. This avoids lumps and ensures even mixing.

Combine Wet and Dry

  • Gently fold dry ingredients into wet mixture. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix to keep bread tender.

Add Chocolate Chips

  • Fold in chocolate chips carefully. This adds extra chocolate flavor and gooey texture to the bread.

Pour Batter

  • Pour batter into prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top with a spatula for even baking.

Bake Bread

  • Bake in preheated oven for 50–55 minutes. Insert a toothpick in the center; it should come out mostly clean.

Cool Slightly

  • Remove bread from oven. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Slice and Serve

  • Slice the banana bread into thick pieces. Serve warm or at room temperature for best flavor.

Enjoy

  • Enjoy the chocolatey, coffee-flavored banana bread with a cup of coffee or milk

Notes

  • Use overripe bananas for sweeter, moister bread.
  • Add walnuts or pecans for crunch.
  • Substitute chocolate chips with dark or white chocolate for variety.
  • Sprinkle cocoa powder or powdered sugar on top for decoration.
  • For extra flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg.
  • Use almond flour for a gluten-free version.
  • Add a swirl of Nutella or peanut butter for richness.
