Ingredients

  • 6 thick slices challah bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Maple syrup for topping
  • Fresh fruit for serving
  • Powdered sugar for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Bowl

  • Crack eggs into a large bowl. Add milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and salt. Whisk until smooth and creamy.

Mix Well

  • Whisk again until everything blends well. The mixture should look light and even in color.

Slice the Bread

  • Cut challah into thick slices. Thick slices soak better and stay soft inside after cooking.

Soak the Bread

  • Dip each slice into the egg mixture. Let it soak for about 20 seconds per side.

Rest the Bread

  • Place soaked slices on a plate. Let them rest for one minute to absorb flavor.

Heat the Pan

  • Heat a large pan on medium heat. Add butter and let it melt fully.

Cook First Side

  • Place bread slices on the hot pan. Cook until golden brown on the first side.

Flip Gently

  • Flip the slices slowly using a spatula. Do not press them.

Cook Second Side

  • Cook until the second side turns golden and crisp.

Remove and Rest

  • Remove French toast from the pan. Place on a clean plate.

Repeat Cooking

  • Repeat steps with remaining slices. Add more butter if needed.

Add Toppings

  • Top with maple syrup, fruit and powdered sugar.

Serve Warm

  • Serve hot for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use day-old challah for better soaking.
  • Add orange zest for fresh flavor.
  • Use almond milk for a dairy-free option.
  • Add nutmeg for deeper spice taste.
  • Try honey instead of sugar.
  • Add mashed banana to the egg mix.
  • Top with whipped cream for extra richness.
  • Add chocolate chips for kids.
  • Use coconut oil instead of butter.
  • Serve with berry compote for a fancy touch.
