Ingredients
  

For the cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients on box
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs

For the filling:

  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
  

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven according to cake mix instructions, usually 175°C or 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Prepare Cake Batter

  • Mix cake mix, water, oil, and eggs in a bowl according to package instructions until smooth.

Bake the Cake

  • Pour batter into prepared baking dish. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool Slightly

  • Let cake cool for 10 minutes before poking holes. It should still be warm but not too hot.

Poke Holes

  • Use the handle of a wooden spoon or skewer to poke holes evenly across the cake, about 1–2 inches apart.

Make Filling

  • In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, coconut, pecans, melted butter and vanilla. Heat over low for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.

Pour Filling

  • Pour the warm coconut-pecan mixture evenly over the cake, filling the holes and covering the surface.

Prepare Frosting

  • Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.

Frost the Cake

  • Spread whipped cream frosting evenly over the cooled cake. Sprinkle extra toasted pecans or coconut if desired.

Chill and Serve

  • Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Slice and serve.
