Ingredients
  

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup baking soda for water bath
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions
  

Activate Yeast

  • Mix warm water, sugar and yeast. Let sit until foamy.

Make Dough

  • Add flour, salt and butter to yeast mixture. Mix well.

Knead Dough

  • Knead until smooth and elastic for about 5 to 7 minutes.

Let Dough Rise

  • Cover and let dough rise for 1 hour until doubled.

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 425°F and line baking sheet.

Shape Pretzels

  • Divide dough and roll into long ropes. Shape into pretzels.

Prepare Baking Soda Bath

  • Boil water and add baking soda carefully.

Dip Pretzels

  • Dip each pretzel into baking soda bath for 20 seconds.

Place on Tray

  • Transfer dipped pretzels to baking sheet.

Add Egg Wash

  • Brush pretzels with beaten egg for shine.

Add Salt

  • Sprinkle coarse salt on top.

Bake

  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.

Cool

  • Let cool slightly before serving warm.
