Ingredients
  

For the Cake:

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pistachios

For the Honey Syrup:

  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
  

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9-inch cake pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well.

Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Eggs

  • Add eggs one at a time to butter mixture. Beat well after each addition.

Mix Yogurt and Vanilla

  • Stir yogurt and vanilla into butter-egg mixture until smooth.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture. Mix until just combined.

Add Nuts

  • Fold chopped walnuts or pistachios gently into batter for even distribution.

Bake the Cake

  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.

Prepare Honey Syrup

  • In saucepan, combine honey, water, sugar, and lemon juice. Simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

Pour Syrup Over Cake

  • While cake is warm, pour honey syrup evenly over the top. Let cake absorb syrup.

Cool and Serve

  • Allow cake to cool 20 minutes. Slice and serve moist, nutty and sweet cake.

Notes

  • Use a mix of pistachios and walnuts for extra flavor.
  • Add a pinch of cardamom for authentic Middle Eastern aroma.
  • Toast nuts lightly for extra crunch.
