Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry or crescent roll dough
  • 2 cups cooked chicken shredded
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen broccoli chopped and lightly steamed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Dough

  • Roll out puff pastry or crescent roll dough into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.

Mix Chicken and Cheese

  • In a bowl, combine shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Steam the Broccoli

  • Lightly steam broccoli for 2–3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain well.

Spread the Filling

  • Evenly spread chicken and cheese mixture in the center of the dough, leaving about 2 inches on each side.

Add Broccoli

  • Sprinkle steamed broccoli evenly on top of the chicken and cheese mixture.

Cut the Dough Sides

  • Using a knife, make 1-inch wide strips along both sides of the dough, cutting toward the filling but not through it.

Braid the Dough

  • Fold strips over the filling alternately from each side, creating a braided pattern down the center.

Brush with Egg Wash

  • Brush beaten egg over the braid for a golden and glossy finish after baking.

Bake the Braid

  • Place the braid on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

Cool Slightly

  • Remove from oven and let the braid cool for 5 minutes before slicing to maintain shape and filling.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Slice the braid into portions and serve warm. Pair with a salad or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use Pre-Cooked Chicken: Rotisserie chicken works great and saves time.
  • Cheese Variations: Try mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack for different flavors.
  • Vegetarian Option: Replace chicken with mushrooms, zucchini, or spinach for a veggie braid.
  • Make Ahead: Assemble braid ahead of time, refrigerate, and bake before serving.
  • Season Generously: Adjust garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste for a flavorful filling.
  • Dipping Sauce: Serve with ranch, garlic aioli, or marinara sauce for extra flavor.
