Ingredients

  • 12 oz fettuccine pasta
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 ½ cups freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

Boil the Pasta

  • Fill a large pot with water and add salt. Bring to a boil. Cook fettuccine according to package instructions.

Drain the Pasta

  • Once the pasta becomes tender, drain it using a colander. Reserve a small cup of pasta water for later use.

Melt the Butter

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add butter and let it melt slowly until it becomes smooth.

Cook the Garlic

  • Add minced garlic to the melted butter. Cook for one minute while stirring gently to release the aroma.

Add the Cream

  • Pour heavy cream into the skillet. Stir well and let the mixture simmer gently for about three minutes.

Season the Sauce

  • Add salt, black pepper and optional nutmeg. Stir well to combine all flavors in the creamy sauce.

Add the Cheese

  • Slowly add grated parmesan cheese into the sauce. Stir constantly until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens.

Add the Cooked Pasta

  • Place the cooked fettuccine into the sauce. Toss gently so every strand becomes coated in creamy Alfredo sauce.

Adjust the Sauce

  • If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water. Stir until the sauce becomes smooth.

Taste the Dish

  • Taste the pasta and adjust seasoning if needed. Add more cheese or pepper according to preference.

Garnish the Pasta

  • Sprinkle chopped parsley on top for freshness and color. This also adds a light herbal flavor.

Serve Immediately

  • Serve the pasta warm in bowls. Enjoy this creamy comfort dish with family or guests.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated parmesan for the best flavor.
  • Do not boil the sauce. Gentle simmering keeps it smooth.
  • Add grilled chicken for a protein-rich meal.
  • Shrimp also pairs beautifully with Alfredo sauce.
  • Add mushrooms or spinach for extra vegetables.
  • Use half-and-half for a lighter sauce option.
  • Always toss pasta in sauce while hot for best texture.
